Childcare Information Service (ChIS)

Childcare Information Services were primarily set up to provide information for parents to help them choose the right childcare as quickly as possible. Now they are useful sources of information for, childcare providers and employers, as well as parents.

In Scotland, Local Authorities take the lead, in planning and supporting childcare in their local areas. The Scottish Government have charged Moray Childcare Partnership (MCP), part of Education and Social Care within Moray Council, to support childcare workers ensuring high quality and affordable childcare is available to parents and carers.

As part of the Childcare Strategy for Scotland (1998), Childcare Information Services (ChISs) were developed in each Local Authority area to provide reliable information on childcare and pre school education. The Early Years Framework requests that all ChIS become a Family Information Service. MCP will provide a single gateway to a range of advice and information for children and families.
